"Dyslexia is a specific type of developmental reading disorder in which problems exist in basic reading skills, reading fluency, and spelling. These problems typically emerge early in a child's educational history, are persistent, and are unexpected given an individual's overall cognitive abilities and instructional experiences. Most researchers estimate that as many as 5 to 8% of students have dyslexia, whereas several professionals and professional organizations state that the prevalence may be as high as 20%.
