2003年美國微生物學會出版的第八版臨床微生物手冊所介紹的革蘭氏陰性桿菌（GNB），總共約有400多個菌種，挑剔性(fastidious)以外的細菌約有300多個菌種或菌型，其中葡萄糖發酵性菌種（GFB）的腸內菌有134個菌種及菌型，弧菌(Vibrio)有12個菌種，產氣單胞菌（Aeromonas）有7個菌種及亞種，鄰單胞菌(Plesiomonas)有1個菌種，而不常見的革蘭氏陰性桿菌(GNF)則
